Fred Meyer plans $10 million remodel, energy upgrade at Battle Ground store
$10 million is budgeted for a remodel underway at its Battle Ground Fred Meyer store. The project is expected to be completed by the end of February.

Battle Ground City Grill served an estimated 100 hungry people yesterday, Thanksgiving Day

Event coordinator at Battle Ground City Grill, Jorgan Cattin, is excited by the fact that 100 people turned out for the free turkey dinners- stuffing, veggies and all.

Now they have leftovers, just as we all do.  So these leftovers will be used today, as topping on turkey pizza at Cattin’s Salmon Creek eatery, The Good Pizza Company,  located at 14300 NE 20th Ave, Vancouver, WA 98686.  (360) 573-0355

“They will be making turkey pizza with stuffing, gravy and cranberry sauce.”

One half of profits from the pizza will be donated to the North County Community Food Bank, located at 17

Could a local team play in the Super Bowl? Sure looks like it

According to a story by Paul Danzer of The Columbian, a Vancouver-area youth football teams could be headed to Disney World.

An 11-and-under team -- the North County Wildcats -- need a win Nov. 28 in order to earn a spot in the Pop Warner Junior Pee Wee Division II Super Bowl.

Also in the story, there's a bunch of track, soccer, bowling, rowing and other news in there.

The Marines have landed ... in Battle Ground

On November 23, 2009,  Battle Ground became another home for the Marine Corp Recruitment Center. President Barack Obama is expected to announce his plan for Afghanistan on Dec. 1 and PFC Mangan, seen above, is looking forward to the opportunity of serving his country there. The new recruitment center is located at 1706 Main Street Battle Ground

School bus hit by van in Battle Ground; no one injured

Clark County Fire & Rescue crews responded to a school bus accident at the intersection of NE 92nd Avenue and NE 179th Street in Battle Ground on Nov. 23.

The bus was carrying 26 students to Meadow Glade Elementary. The bus was stopped and waiting to turn left when a sedan, driven by a male in his 40s, rear-ended the bus. There was extensive damage to the sedan. The driver was not injured. The bus sustained very little damage and no one on board was injured.

Battalion Chief, Max Konkright reported that the children were in good spirits.

Satellite now available in Battle Ground

Winds take out 70-foot maple

This 70-foot Maple tree has survived the elements for nearly 100 years, but on Sunday night the wind in Battle Ground took it down. 

"If it had been a little taller, it would have crashed right through our barn," said Will Swanson, the Battle Ground resident who supplied the photo above. "Good thing there wasn’t any of our animals in the way when it went down."
