Student brings gun to school in Battle Ground
Battle Ground Police responded to Daybreak School for a possible weapon violation involving a handgun. Police arrived and were advised that a student reported seeing another student with a handgun.
Police located the suspect student and removed him from class. The suspect student admitted to bringing the gun to school and when he saw police arrive, he gave it to a third student. The third student was located and the gun was recovered. The gun was found to be loaded (.22 caliber) and in the third student's backpack.
At this time there is no indication that the student(s) had any intention of using the gun at school and both students have been suspended from school.
Due to the age of the students, their identity will not be released. The juveniles were placed in the custody of Clark County Juvenile Detention and weapons charges will be forwarded to the Clark County Juvenile Court.

Too close to home. What can we do to solve this problem? I want my kid safe, but there doesn't seem like a sure-fire way we can ensure anyone's safety. Whoever owns that gun should go to jail as well.

You are so right... there is no reason a child should have access to a gun.

Well, UNSUPERVISED access any way. My girls and I love target shooting together, they're naturals at skeet with a little 20gauge.

There will never be a way to stop this. It can only be minimized.
If the kids stole the gun why should the owner of the gun go to jail? If the owner gave the kids the gun then jail would be appropriate.

it sure is easy to sit behind a computer and judge, when you kids are nicely tucked into bed. I am sure that this is how these kids' parents felt the night before it happened to them. The best parent in the world couldn't have prevented this... not even the best parent with 100000 locks on their gun safe, there are other ways to obtain a loaded gun. The cause of this is ... freedom of thought.. these kids thought it was a good idea.... WRONG... clearly it was dumb... but honestly a kid can kill another kid with other weapons, siccors, heavy objects in the classroom... bare hands? The importance of not bringing a gun to school is definately stressed so are these kids murderers or dense?... I think dense and desperate for attention... looky... they got it... here everyone is talking about them like OMG... what a horrible kid... Oh, the parents are to blame... Oh, my kid would NEVER do that... WAKE UP... you dont know SH*T

EXACTLY!! HELLO BRAINLESS PEOPLE. They are boys, children...not adults. They do not think like adults. These boys are both excellent students and very well liked. The gun was brought to school. There was no intention of using it or harming anyone. Stupid idea, with serious consequences. Read what the school had to say. THERE WAS NO INTENTION TO HARM ANYONE.

I don't think I understood the point of your rant. People SHOULD be alarmed about a child bringing a weapon (gun or whatever) to school. No one is trying to deny anyone their right to access to a weapon - but there is a proper time and place for everything. Gun safety isn't going to be taught at school, so don't bring a gun into the lives of those who are only there to learn.
A gun is a weapon and no child should have instant access to one. There is no clear motive as to why this child had it. Worst possible scenario was to commit a crime - which has happened MANY times before in our country's horrible history with gun violence at school. If there was no real motive except for "show and tell", there is a time and place for that, too - where adult supervision is involved and guns are not loaded.

he didnt steal the gun...get your story straight

Yeah, heaven forbid my teenage daughter who is proficient in gun safety and target shooting should be able to obtain her parent's gun to fend off a rapist who breaks into our house when nobody else is home.

Only hell forbids something, for something can be anything as much as nothing.

Right on, thank you! Woe betide the person who tries to kick in our doo when my girls are home alone!

I have to wonder.. they know the laws, they know the rules, they've seen the other kids go down for this kind of thing, and STILL these kids pull this stupid stunt. I agree the 'zero tollerance' laws need to be relaxed for nail clippers and aspirin tablets, but firearms is a different matter.

Yea they know the rules, and that is probably exactly why the gun was brought. They are kids and kids don't always make the best choices. They learn from consequences of their sometimes stupid decisions. I agree on zero tolerance IF THERE WAS HARM INTENDED IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM. There wasn't here so lay off.

Proper gun safety includes teaching your child when and where it is appropriate to take and fire a gun. Guns should NEVER be left loaded where children can access them. As for using them as protection as home...fine, everyone should have that right, but if this kind of negligence keeps occurring, your child should feel more threatened by the child sitting next to them on the bus than a stranger breaking down the door.

I lived in Denver when Columbine happened...It really doesn't matter the age, or whether the gun was locked up or not-kids will find a way to make their plans work. This is something that should NEVER be excused, nor should it be over looked and made okay. It's scary that all these kids/teens/adults to now days is resort directly to violence- This really shows how active the parents are in these kid's lives. Makes me SICK!

WHERE DID YOU READ OR HEAR THE BOYS WERE RESORTING TO VIOLENCE????? THAT IS NOT THE SITUATION HERE. COLUMBINE??? GIVE ME A BREAK. THIS SITUATION CANNOT EVEN BE COMPARED. YOU DONT KNOW THE BOYS, YOU ARE ADDING TO THE ACTUAL HAPPENING. SHUT YOUR FACE. ACTUALLY THESE PARENTS OF BOTH BOYS ARE WONDERFUL CARING PARENTS. WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE. GO BACK TO DENVER.

I feel the parents should be arrested in this case. Of course nothing will happen to the child or the parents. You really got to wonder who is raising these children.

What if the parents had nothing to do with the gun? Isn't it possible to think a young person could buy a gun off the streets. Are people so ignorant to think that it doesn't happen? think before you post.

Even if the kid bought the gun off the streets, the parents SHOULD be held liable. Talk about ignorance - and lack of responsibility. The parents should be responsible for raising a good, productive member of society. If there was a good home environment, with good parenting then the kid would have never even wanted to touch a gun, much less buy one/steal one/bring one to school.

You don't know these boys, you are not reading the situation as it is, you dont know the parents, so keep your unintelligent thoughts to yourself. Where the heck are you from? Not around here that's for sure. Wow your post worries me. You sound like an uneducated, socially slow, totally out of touch with reality...

let me geuss you are one of those people that try to sue the gun make for making the gun istead of the person using it. I think your dad shouldve sued the condom company for the condon that broke that caused you to be born

you all need to understand that this kid comes from a family of responsible gun owners. Unfortunately some kids (and adults) become too comfortable with guns. The family practices safe gun handling and hunt together, unfortunately we are dealing with a 13 year old that thinks like a 13 year old and made a bad decision. This kid is NOT a bad kid and did not have bad intentions with the gun, just made a mistake and the parents feel just as bad as any of you!

Yes, but rules need to be respected and not ignored. Gun laws aren't designed to prvent you from owning or buying a gun - they are designed to make sure there are places were guns shouldn't be. You know, like a school where bullies and kids with no gun experience can accidently steal it or set the gun off.
People can get hurt or killed during such acts of irresponsible and negligible behavior.
Please don't respond so quickly to think that someone is trying to remove someone's rights. There's a reason why there are laws about weapons. People are too often hurt when there was no intent to kill or mame. Accidents happen - and people often die from them.

there are to to many guns out there, any and all manner of people have access to these destructive things.
there is nothing good, that comes from gun ownership.

To djan555, I don't condone what this child did, and whole-heartedly agree there are too many guns available to those that want to improperly attain and use them, but to state "there is nothing good that comes from gun ownership" is ignorant at best.
People put food on the table with guns, and in todays economic climate, that is more necessary than ever for some of the more unfortunate among us. This country is a direct result of gun ownership and had our forefathers not had them available, you would not have this opportunity to voice your opinion today.
Gun laws, if done properly, can be effective, and no tolerance should be given in cases like this, but gun ownership one of our most basic rights. I am a law abiding citizen and responsible gun owner. I will never give up that right.

Don't like guns get out of the U.S

Did these kids have CCLs? If they did, then I don't think the school can do anything about it.

No good can come from gun ownership? If someone comes into my home to assult me or my children they are in for a shock. I will defend myself and my children, period. However if he comes into your home to assult you and your family he will have a much easier time of it. My home and family are safer and will stay that way.
However, I think the main reason that kids pull this is because they think that because guns are 'taboo' that they are cool and their friends will think that they are so much cooler if they have a 'gun', whooooo. But if their parents had talked to them, shown then proper time, place, and use then it would have taken that forbiddeness away from the gun and it would become what it was intended for, a tool to use to protect yourself.
When I was a child and my mom caught me with her gun, which had been put away and was reasonably not within my reach (I still found a way to get it) she took me outside and made me shoot one of our neighbors rabbits (they were food rabbits, but I didn't know that I just thought they were cute furry animals), then we had it for dinner (because you don't shoot an animal you don't intend to eat). I couldn't eat that night, I couldn't bring myself to do it. But I learned a very good lesson about what guns will do to another living being. It gave me a healthy respect for guns that I would never have had from a video or lecture. But then she taught me proper gun handling and safety. I and my family have owned guns my whole life and there has never been an incident of something like this because of that education.

wtf is your problem both the boys had there hunting licence so they know the right time to use guns..meet the kid b4 u talk shit

It was a .22 handgun, loaded probably with standard lead slug. I would put money on that it was not loaded with bird shot, worthless for hunting all around, not to mention illegal if he is not 21, hunting license or not. I don't need to know the kids to know THAT. You are an idiot, read before you comment and learn the gun laws.

I don't know why it won't let me continue, I'll try to do the rest shortly.

Continued:
They try for same reaction from their friends when they bring the 'p0rno mag' they stole from dad or someone else, because its taboo. Anything that is forbidden or taboo is fodder for kids that want to be cool, and while p0rn is disgusting it won't kill anyone. But if we continue to put guns on a pedestal and focus on their forbiddeness we will continue to see guns in places they have no business being, along with anything else we put on a similar pedestal. Kids want the cookie they were told they could not have, they will climb counters, fridges, and shelves just to get it. If you have kids you know that they will find a way especially if they were told no they couldn't touch it/have it.
Am I saying give kids guns? Hell no, I am saying take the unknown and forbidden out of it and it will lose a lot of its appeal. Maybe not for the truely sick, but they will find a way of doing what they want even without a gun, like the guy in Ohio. But for kids like this that want to 'show off', they would find other things to 'show off'.
Just my two cents worth. Thanks for reading.

How about just having a healthy respect for rules and laws?
A lot can come from teaching right and wrong without having to traumatize someone into learning what the difference is.

Guess it was the word "p0rn" LOL...

you know what? you guys should just shut it. i've lived with my brother for 13yrs and has he ever done anything bad in his whole life? no! and about the whole ohh i think the parents should get arrested? what is that about...your so stupid. people who spend there lifes on the computer talkn crap about things you dont know and think its fun, obviously you have no life. he did a dumb thing. all kids make mistakes and do dumb things. so your talkn about my brother as if he is a killer.. calm down he's not....every parent in the world does not have a perfect child, and yet the news and all this publicity doesnt come to your house filming something your kid has done wrong. he payed the price last night.. and thats it..

hey fag your brother is a dumbass and he could have killed anyone yeah he didnt but what if he did or it went off in his bag...
-your next door neighbor...ps we are now moving

Wow, little 'next door neighbor' of the post you replied to; I dont know you or your neighbor but you sound like a real intelligent person so when you move can you do us all a favor?? MOVE AS FAR FROM HERE AS YOU CAN YOU BRAT!

dont talk about anyone in my family like that again.
well guess what? it didnt go off. what if that what if this what if anything..nothing happened so keep your little mouth closed...
